  1. 1. How do your products represent social groups or issues?

My short film about bullying and the process of overcoming this hardship seen in our world today represents many important social issues related to bullying, self-esteem, and the power that supportive groups have on the individual. My production depicts the story of a widespread problem faced in our society today. By representing the social “outcasts” in our world, my film has given a positive message towards helping individuals overcome their demanding situations. Bullying can lead to negative consequences like low- self-esteem, depression, and anxiety. Along with representing the individuals that have experienced these feelings, raising awareness towards such emotions also encourages viewers to change the representation of this common issue faced today. My film's goal was to help shift the public perception of bullying from something that is normalized or dismissed to something that is taken seriously and addressed. Taking viewers through a realistic eye of bullying, our film gives a sense of empathy and support to the victims of the same issue outside of my film. Not only does my film focus on recognizing, and representing this social group, my short film is also meant to empower society towards taking action through connecting with support systems like the main character in my short film did. Inspiring self-confidence throughout our audience and further supporting the issue at hand. Overall, the short film effectively represents important social issues related to bullying, self-esteem, and the power of supportive social groups. It sends a positive message about the importance of having a strong support system and depicts the negative side to allowing these emotions to overcome the individual.

  1. 2. How do the elements of your production work together to create a sense of branding?

The different elements of my production can combine to create a strong brand identity by conveying a consistent and unified message or image. My short film includes aspects such as visual design, music, tone, and overall messaging. These elements all come together to show the audience the effects of bullying and the support systems around you. For example, in the case of my short film, about overcoming bullying, the production elements work together to promote a message of empowerment and support, which is my primary sense of brand identity, highlighted throughout the film. The elements of my production, comprised of elements such as colors, lighting, and camera angles, establish a mood that reflects the protagonist's emotions, helping to reinforce the overall message of the film. These elements used in my film also establish the severity of the message given by the film. Similarly, the music and tone are two very important elements that also contribute to the sense of branding, with sad, negative connotative melodies reinforcing the message of the negative impacts of bullying, but also loss of friendship that can undertake an individual. The tone of the film remains consistent throughout, emphasizing the message of overcoming adversity and the significance of support systems. Ultimately, the film's overall messaging, including the script and dialogue, promotes a unified and consistent message of empowerment and support. By conveying this message through all production elements, the film establishes a strong sense of branding that is associated with this message of empowerment and support.

  1. 3. How do your products engage with the audience?

Bullying is a widespread problem that affects people from all walks of life. My short film about overcoming bullying shows how production can create a positive impact by engaging audiences. The film emotionally connects with viewers by presenting a relatable character who has experienced bullying, evoking empathy and investment in her journey. Making this character relatable engages with our target audience by giving them common ground with the issue depicted. Personalization is also used to engage viewers by making the character's story unique but also relatable to those who may have undergone similar experiences. The film encourages interactivity by prompting viewers to reflect on their own experiences and discuss bullying with others. My film also delivers a clear message that inspires action against bullying and offers support to those affected by it. Personal relationships are used in my film to amplify the message and encourage ongoing conversations about bullying, further engaging with our audience past the film. The film provides education about the effects of bullying and resources available for those who need help. Its message promotes inclusivity and kindness, encouraging mindfulness and empathy towards others. Innovative solutions are introduced to tackle the issue of bullying, such as the importance of support networks and seeking help from trusted individuals. In conclusion, the short film about bullying and overcoming it engages audiences by delivering a powerful message of empowerment and support. It inspires action and promotes a culture of inclusivity and kindness through personalization, interactivity, education, and innovation.

  1. 4. How did your research inform your products and the way they use or challenge conventions?

As part of my research into the drama genre and its intersection with the issue of bullying, I have gained valuable insights into the effective use and challenging of various film conventions, including camera angles, sound, and editing in our products. By applying these techniques in innovative and thoughtful ways, I created a more powerful impact and engaged audiences on a deeper level. In my film, camera angles were used to convey a sense of power dynamic between characters, particularly in bullying situations where one character is dominating or intimidating another. By using a slight low angle shot of the bully towering over their victim, for example, I created a sense of intimidation and fear, while a high angle shot of the victim looking up at their bully can evoke sympathy and empathy. Sound also played a crucial role in creating tension and conveying emotions. The use of silence or ambient noise heightens the intensity of a scene and evokes feelings of unease or discomfort, while music can be used to evoke a range of emotions from sadness to hope. Editing is another key technique that manipulates time and creates a sense of continuity or disruption. For example, I used jump cuts to create a disorienting effect and convey the chaos in the situation, while long takes were also used to create a sense of intimacy and allow the audience to connect with the characters on a deeper level. Overall, by leveraging the insights gained from our research into the drama genre and bullying, I effectively used and challenge film conventions in my products, creating a more powerful and memorable impact on audiences
