The images carry a very specific connation. The images are very thrilling. There is a man who is clearing the dead skin off his fingers. This makes me want to know what it gonna happen, and makes me want to watch the film.
3. How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset? (Can you tell what genre the film is)
The genre is greatly reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset. And it very obvious to tell what genre Se7en is. One of the symbols was a book with black highlighter which does not show some of the words. This gives the audience a feel of suspense and makes them want to know why they crossed out some of the words. This really gives the idea that there is mystery and crime, and it is going to be a thriller.
4. What conventions are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?
There are many conventions used to ensure appeals to its audience which is people who like thriller films. The first convention is the sound track. The sound is very spooky and mysterious and gives off a very thrilling vibe. Another convention is the camera angles The camera angle is very high. The last convention is the props used. Props such as the tool used by the man to cut off his dead skin was very creepy and it was in a dark room. This helps bring suspense and helps the target audience know that the film will be a thriller.
