Movie convention research: Skywalker
conventions that my group liked: There was a lot of conventions used in this film that our group likes. The angles and the clamps have their own purposes. We liked that the costumes because they were very casual since the movie takes place in a skyscraper. They were also props such as machine guns being shot, during the rising action of the movie. We like that it gives the audience a sense of suspense with the guns being shot. The lighting used since its in a big city gives a thrilling vibe. We definitely want to use a certain lighting in our film. The lighting gives a natural thrilling feel. Finally, we like the sound used in the movie. The sound of suspense attracts the audience which is very good for the film.
Conventions that my group didn't like: My group didn't like certain things found in the film. For one, the editing used seemed partially synthetic, and not believe able enough to the eye, although as we watched the film it did seem like a budget film hence the editing was not up to par like some films. Further, our group also did not like how many high angles there were. Of course they were used for purpose, to show someone hanging from a tall tower, however, the angle was very repetitive and constantly was used to achieve the same goal. These are a couple conventions that my group did not like.
Conventions that my group would use in our film: After noticing what we liked in this film and what we didn't like, our group though of some conventions used in the film that we would use in ours. To start, we definitely want to use sound, similar to the one used in the skyscraper movie because it really gives the audience the suspense that we are looking for. Finally, we also want to use props like weapons similar to the ones used in the movie, but to a lesser extent. we feel these kinds of props will also help us achieve out thrilling goal.
